The Food Maintenance Project was conducted by the Victorian Food Industry Training Board (VFITB) and the Manufacturing, Engineering Skills Advisory Board (MESAB) and supported by Skills Victoria.
The key objectives of the project were to:
- Gain an understanding of the engineering maintenance skill requirements of the food manufacturing sector operating in metropolitan and regional Victoria
- Examine the existing training provisions for mechanical trade apprentices by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and compare to the identified skill and delivery requirements of the industry sector
- Develop sample Training Plan options that facilitate the skill set and delivery requirements of the industry sector
For the purposes of this project the food manufacturing sector includes enterprises undertaking food, confectionery, beverage and pharmaceutical processing and packaging. It is estimated this sector employs in excess of 61,000 employees throughout Victoria.
